These are the steps in the dog adoption process with us:

    • Evaluate Readiness: Consider your lifestyle, financial stability, and time commitment required to care for a dog.

    • Home Preparation: Ensure your home is pet-friendly or can be made pet friendly, with necessary supplies like a bed, food, water bowls, toys, and a safe space for the dog.

    • Online Search: Use our website or our social media platforms to find dogs available for adoption.

    • Shelter Recommendation: Get in contact with us and tell us what you are looking for. We can give you recommendations suggesting dogs that match your lifestyle and preferences.

    • Visit Dogs in Person: If possible, visit the shelter to see the dogs you are interested in.

    • Fill Out an Application: Complete the adoption application, providing information about your living situation, experience with pets, and what you are looking for in a dog.

    • Interview: After reading and accepting your application, we will conduct a video interview or home visits to ensure a suitable match.

    • Pay the Adoption Fee: This fee covers among other things vaccinations, spaying/neutering, microchipping and paperworks for the dog.

    • Complete Contract: Sign the adoption agreement, agreeing to the responsibilities of pet ownership.

    • Transport Arrangements:

      • Flying the Dog: Since we are on an island, dogs often need to be flown to their new homes. Adopters are responsible for the transport costs.

      • Flight Parents: If adopters cannot pick up the dog themselves, the shelter can assist in finding flight parents. Adopters are responsible for this transport cost.

      • Transport Box: A transport box must be organized for the flight. The adopters are responsible for this cost.

    • Transport Safely: Ensure a safe journey home with appropriate restraints or a crate.

    • Introduce Gradually: Allow the dog to explore their new home and settle in at their own pace.

    • Routine and Training: Establish a routine for feeding, walking, and potty breaks. Begin basic training and socialization.

    • Veterinary Care: Schedule a vet appointment for a check-up and to establish a healthcare plan.

    • Training and Behavior: Consider professional training if needed and provide ongoing socialization.
